Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams review | Thunderbolt

Added: 23.04.2013 15:17 | 39 views | 0 comments

James Dewitt, Thunderbolt writes: The journey of the Giana Sisters series is a fascinating piece of gaming historyoriginally little more than a rip-off of Super Mario Bros., its similar nature supposedly led to a lawsuit that saw the 1987 platformer pulled from stores. Fast-forward many years later to see the sisters resurrected on the Nintendo DS of all places bearing few similarities to Nintendos biggest mascots, followed by a successful Kickstarter campaign to get another title off the ground. That success has brought Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams from Steam to the XBLA marketplacea game that now marches to the beat of its own drum while capturing timeless qualities that make for a good platformer.

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams Review | Gamer Limit

Gamer Limit: "The entire experience of Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams doesnt come together in a cohesive whole often enough for it to be considered one of the great platformers, or even a really good one. Its frustrating lows, compounded by brutal difficulty spikes, dont completely outweigh the occasional highs. A great soundtrack and bright colorful visuals certainly help, but theyre just set dressing."

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams Review | Gaming Age

Gaming Age: "Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams certainly is a pretty game, and at it's core is a decent platformer. But, that's about it. A simple platform adventure that you basically run from point A to B, throw in a boss battle, rinse and repeat. What will draw gamers in is are the stunning visuals and simple gameplay that almost anyone can get the hang of. You will see elements from other games and very little being done with them, and it's that fact that really keeps true to the Giana Sisters legacy, something borrowed and not that much new. While the world switching is a nice touch, it really doesn't distract from the fact that it's a simple game that has a hard time standing out. It's lengthy loading times, small control issues and somewhat hefty price tag are also turn offs here. If you are a Giana Sisters fan from way back, then you will no doubt grab this one. For everyone else I recommend trying out the demo, to see if you will enjoy it. It's not terrible or broken by any mea...

When sister number one Maria is abducted into the Dream World, she is quickly captured and held captive by a giant evil-doer dragon, hell bent on enjoying a rare filling meal of unsuspecting teenage girl. With no means of escape, she must rely on her sister Giana (Giana Giana?) to come to her aid, and to slay the dragon. Now a teenager, Giana must also enter the Dream World herself to rescue Maria from the imminent fiery dragon death she faces. Luckily for Giana (and for her sister sitting comfortably in the belly of early said dragon), now in her teenage years can manipulate the Dream World, giving her the ability to jump between personas, allowing her a multitude of advantages that will help her bring her sister back to reality

Released in 1987, the original Great Giana Sisters attracted controversy for being a shameless rip-off of Super Mario Bros. With the threat of legal action from Nintendo, all copies were removed from store shelves and it instantly attained cult status. Thanks to last year's successful Kickstarter campaign by developer Black Forest Games, Giana and Maria are back with an energetic and original title that should keep the lawyers at bay.
